| Dunkirk, MD — Members of the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company were proudly recognized last evening during the Annual Calvert County Volunteer Fire, Rescue, & EMS Awards Banquet, held at the Dunkirk Fire Department. The event honored individuals across the county for their dedication, leadership, and service, highlighting the continued strength of the volunteer system.
Among the honorees, Lieutenant Ethan Benton was presented with the prestigious Larry Cox Memorial Award. This distinguished recognition is awarded annually to individuals who exemplify excellence and an unwavering commitment to volunteer service. The award stands as a tribute to Larry Cox, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 1970, and serves as a lasting reminder of the courage and dedication embodied by those in the fire and rescue service.
Also recognized was Deputy Chief James “Jimmy” Schooley, who was inducted into the Calvert County Fire & Rescue Hall of Fame. Schooley’s nearly 40 years of service to the St. Leonard community and Calvert County reflect a career defined by leadership, mentorship, and steadfast commitment to protecting others.
The evening also celebrated the accomplishments of the next generation of responders. Junior members John Farrell and David Wester were honored for their outstanding contributions and achievements in the CTA Fire & Rescue Program at the local high school. Their dedication and performance continue to reflect positively on the department and the community.
Wester will go on to represent the program at the upcoming SkillsUSA Competition, where he is set to compete in EMS, an opportunity that highlights both his skill and the quality of training provided through the program.
The St. Leonard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company extends its congratulations to all of its award recipients, as well as to the many members whose efforts throughout the year have supported these achievements. Together, they represent the very best of service, leadership, and community commitment. |
