By Chief Brent Lankford
March 10, 2022

The St. Leonard Volunteers are proud to introduce the newest addition to our fleet, Boat 7.

Over the past several years the leadership and membership of the department identified the need for an additional marine resource in the southern end of Calvert County. During this time our apparatus committee worked hard to find a vessel that would meet the needs of our department as well as the citizens. The committee identified a vessel that was being sold by the Port Penn Fire Company in DE. A few committee members drove to Port Penn and tested the vessel and almost immediately knew it was the vessel needed for the department to serve the citizens.

This vessel is a 27’ Boston Whaler Challenger Fire and Rescue Boat. It has dual 300 HP Mercury Verado Supercharged motors and a 250 GPM portable pump.

Over the next several weeks the members will be training to become operators and crew. We look to place the unit in service late spring/early summer of this year. To note this project has been in the work over the past 20 years.

We want to especially thank the leadership and membership of the Port Penn Fire Company for their hospitality and camaraderie.
